Dragons, Oaths, and Serious Heat: Our Vicious Oaths review

Book cover for "Our Vicious Oaths" with a dragon, crown, and text notes: "Political intrigue," "Spicy," "Fae magic," and a 4.5-star rating.

Our Vicious Oaths: A Masterclass in High-Stakes Romantasy (But Consider This a Heat Warning!)

Let’s talk about a book that nearly set my headphones on fire.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I usually prefer my fantasy worlds with a side of snark and a strictly "closed-door" policy. But sometimes, a story comes along with a premise so gripping—and a cast so compelling—that you just have to dive in.

Enter Our Vicious Oaths by N.E. Davenport.

The World-Building We Crave

This isn’t your typical Fae story. Davenport has crafted an incredible, all-melanated Fae cast that feels so organic and richly textured. The backdrop? Dragons and war. The tropes? Forced marriage and enemies-to-lovers. It’s a dark, political, and razor-sharp world that kept me hooked from the first chapter. I hope you enjoy my Our Vicious Oaths review.

A Note on the Narration (The Only Way to Read This!)

I consumed this via audiobook, and I have to give a massive shout-out to Jeanette Illidge and Morris Kellswater. Their performances were absolute knockouts. They captured the grit and the tension so perfectly that I felt like I was standing right in the middle of the political intrigue. If you’re going to pick this up, the audio is the way to go.

Let’s Talk About the "Vicious" Part

I’m giving this a 4.5-star rating, but with a very clear disclaimer: This book is high-heat. While the spice is heavy, I have to admit it was incredibly well-written. It wasn't just there for the sake of it; it served the character development and the world's intense chemistry. My only minor gripe was a few jarring word choices that occasionally pulled me out of the moment, but the pacing was so tight I was quickly sucked back in.

Our Vicious Oaths review - The Verdict

If you’re a fan of morally grey characters and you don't mind a story that leans heavily into the "Rom" part of Romantasy, Our Vicious Oaths is a brilliant, dark ride.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 An absolute knockout of a story, even if I had to fan myself a few times!
