Looking for the Ultimate Winter Read? Why 'If You Only Knew' is a 5-Star Masterclass in Emotion
There is a specific kind of magic in a book that feels like it’s inviting you into a secret.
You know the feeling—when the prose is so personal and the characters so vivid that you aren't just reading a story; you’re being trusted with a confidence. That is exactly how I felt while devouring my ARC of If You Only Knew by E.K. Moore.
If you’ve been searching for a story that prioritises "the feels" over the bedroom door, this is the one you need to clear your schedule for. The bedroom door does eventually open, but the build-up in anticipation makes this a justified and worthwhile aspect of the story.
Timing, Tension, and the "Big Brother's Best Friend" Energy
At its heart, this is Luke and Riley’s story. They’ve known each other their entire lives, but a significant age gap has always kept their feelings in the "forbidden" zone. We’ve all seen the "best friend’s brother" trope before, but E.K. Moore handles it with such a delicate, sophisticated touch.
Riley’s youthful crush has matured into something much deeper, and—spoiler alert for your heartstrings—her feelings are fully reciprocated. The tension is delicious. It’s that agonising "will-they-won't-they" that makes you want to shout at the pages (in the best way possible).
Why the Flashbacks Actually Work
I’m usually quite picky about flashbacks. If they don't serve the story, they’re just a distraction. But in this book? They are meaty.
These glimpses into their past aren't just filler; they are the emotional bricks that build the foundation of their adult relationship. They justify the slow-burn. They explain the quirks, habits, and hesitations. It’s clever, layered storytelling that respects the reader's intelligence.
Characters You’ll Want to Adopt
The character work here is phenomenal. It’s not just Luke and Riley who feel real; every side character has a fully rounded personality and a reason for being there. It’s a world of intricate family dynamics and deep empathy.
The writing is exceptionally easy to read but stays immersive. I finished the book in under 24 hours because the anticipation was simply too much to walk away from. It’s the perfect "cosy romance" vibe for a cold British winter night.
If You Only Knew E.K. Moore Review: The Verdict
If you love the emotional depth of authors like Talia Hibbert or Emily Henry but want a story that stays firmly focused on the soul's connection, If You Only Knew is an easy, immersive 5-star win.
If You Only Knew E.K. Moore Review Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Put the kettle on, grab your softest throw, and prepare to be emotionally wrecked in the loveliest way.
